What Is Cancer to You?

How much can be done, can be done. How much more you can do, will be done. Do you have the will to live? Yes, as you must first acknowledge the environment. The environment is consisted of your family, your friends and your numerous caregivers. Look into their eyes of pure sincerity, as they look at you in a pathetic state. Communicate happiness that cancer is simply a statement to yourself and the world out there that you are chosen for the test of a lifetime. Adversity only makes a person think, take action; not evasive but with the will to win. Winning is not the main thing athletic coaches tell their 'students' to focus on, but the will and want to win, as an unrelenting mindset. In that way, you see that how many times they should fail to be good in the eyes of the public, they get better. Moreover, they never think of giving up. That is the mindset any cancer victim must have. If in doubt, take me as an example; I had tumors in my brain and neck. Yet, I pray to the skies above that there are many of me to be dignified. To add, I am now working in the hospital industry, as my status was dignified and respected. As able to understand, feel and see the arising problems before they occur. Patient caregivers all know what to do, they stand by the weak, do what is to be done for the hopeless. Living for a lifetime With the brain, brawn is easier. Take me for an example. I am not the best in this category of achievement, but I did this to return to normalcy in life. Physical motivation is seen, heard and at times; tangible. But Psychological motivation is to insert positive thoughts into the mind before making things work. Things people do seem impossible, but it is done; eventually, by somebody else. These times are actually meant for you to do and stop the thoughts of doing. Just thinking and no action implemented is simply the ways of a person who is efficient, BUT; INEFFECTIVE! There is a lifetime ahead of you, what you think, is where you will be, and what you will do, in the process of the project, called lifetime. Think before acting Initially, I failed that test, but my mind told me to go on, again. Yes, I fell, again, but I fall after a longer distance has been travel-led. The process repeated itself, but the mind keeps 'saying'; "AGAIN". Go about this journey, and employ a different strategy. Thoughts before execution are the factors that will make a result. So, think before you act. Remember, to check the sling before taking a making the 'sling shot' Action, will result in reaction; what is your response? Weigh the pros and cons Know the cause and consequence In the subject: accounting; know what you will gain, with that amount of losses. Turmeric And Cancer - A Promising Connection!

The ever-increasing number of cancer patients across the globe has become a huge concern for governments and health care organizations. Let us look at some global data on cancer just to put things into perspective: According to Cancer Research UK, a nonprofit organization, in 2012 alone, there have been more than 8 million deaths in the world due to cancer. That is more than the number of deaths caused by war in the last decade. And what is more alarming is that there have been 14 million new cases of cancer registered worldwide. Although, it is hard to say which type of cancer is more fatal, lung cancer has turned out to become the most common followed by breast cancer. Almost one out of every 10 male in the world has been diagnosed with lung cancer, the leading causes of this being smoking, tobacco usage and even pollution. No cure in sight Despite spending billions on research and drug development, the world has nothing concrete to show for it. It hasn't been even able to list out the actual reasons for cancer. At any given point of time, there is a new claim from a drug company or few individuals about the invention of a miracle cancer drug, but sooner or later, the hopes are dashed again. While the world waits for a reliable cure, wouldn't it be wise to look at some remedies that nature herself has provided us. Turmeric, a spice that has been in use since medieval times, is known for its medicinal properties, and more importantly, as a cure for cancer! Turmeric and Ayurveda Ayurveda, the ancient natural science that has its roots in India, has acquired huge significance in today's world where other treatment options available causes numerous side effects to the patients. However, the unique property of Curcumin which gives it a real shot against cancer is its antioxidant properties. Turmeric anticancer properties have been in the out for quite some time now. Although there are no comprehensive data on the claim that turmeric cures cancer, the results of various studies have been encouraging. Studies have shown that curcumin can actually destroy the free radicals in the blood stream which are known to create cancer cells. The antioxidant properties may thus result in turmeric cancer cure. The studies have been more encouraging in the treatment of turmeric prostate cancer, wherein the antioxidants were able to specifically destroy the prostate cancer cells. Genomic Cancer Testing

It was back in August of 1994 that I was first diagnosed with breast cancer. At that time, I was a "problem patient", as my oncologist coined me, due to my diagnosis of stage 1 and four recurrences simultaneously. Pair that with my allergy to chemo that started shutting my spinal cord down - and her name for me is understandable! Since my diagnosis over twenty years ago, there have been major advances in the science of treating tumors. Much of these advances is in the area of genomic testing. I cannot help but wonder how my cancer journey might have been different had this fascinating science been around then. Some of you probably have had genetic testing, which is the study of heredity - both maternal and paternal. Genetic testing can be very helpful in helping "at risk" people prior to a cancer diagnosis in addition to aiding a genetic counselor when advising a patient with a genetic disposition regarding potential therapies and surgeries. However, genetics and genomics are not synonymous. On The World Health Organization's website genomics is defined as: the study of genes and their functions". It goes on to say: "The main difference between genomics and genetics is that genetics scrutinizes the functioning and composition of the single gene whereas genomics addresses all genes and their inter-relationships in order to identify their combined influence on the growth and development of the organism." This type of testing is not new, but it is an evolving science that offer patients specialized therapies based on their particular tumors cellular mutations. There are patterns in these mutations and when these patterns are unlocked with genomic testing, the patient's oncologist can recommend therapies known to have worked on these particular mutations in the past. Many cancer centers across America, Canada and Europe have been using genomic testing for several years for certain types of cancer. The Cancer Treatment Centers of America is one of those. CTCA was where I chose to go for adjuvant therapy following my oncologist's hands-off attitude. (I certainly wasn't an expert on cancer and follow-up treatments, but I did know that when I was asked to make my next appointment in six months just three weeks after leaving ICU from the allergic response to chemo, my doctor was not up to the task of dealing with a "problem patient".) Unfortunately, at this time, not all types of cancer utilize genomic testing. That may never be the case. But this tool offers exciting opportunities for those patients whose tumors most likely will respond better to an individualized treatment program. God made us individuals and now that individuality is being used in an exciting way in the midst of a deadly disease. I am sure over the next several years genomic testing will take some giant steps forward! Carin Hansen was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 40. The Day I Got To Know About My Cancer

As the result came back to my doctor, he contacted me and told me to visit him. As I sat in his office, he said that the outcome was somewhat unclear and that he wanted me for a complete checkup in the hospital. He remitted me to the hospital. I went there, and they ran a tomography. It is like going back and forth through a big tube, and they can screen all parts of your body. When the doctor had looked at the result, he said that I had to go to another hospital for a closer checkup. When I was at the other hospital a doctor examined me very thoroughly and after a while, he asked me if I have had blood in my urine. I told him that it was the case, once or twice. He then decided to check my bladder. After he had examined my bladder, he said that they had to fix my bladder. He also took some samples and told me that the result would be ready in about two weeks. After two weeks I was called back to the hospital and saw another doctor for the first time. She said that she would be my own doctor to be. After some hesitation she told me that the results showed a cancer in my prostate and also in my right kidney. I felt relieved to know these facts and decided that I would beat the cancer. Now was the time to take care of the tumor in the kidney. My doctor decided that no operation was to be done. Instead they should burn the tumor. The size of it was about one inch. The doctor, who operated on me localized the tumor with ultrasound. As he found it, he told me that he would penetrate my back with a needle and annihilate the tumor. The incision took twenty minutes, and the tumor was gone. During this process, I did not feel anything. It was fantastic, no knife, no blood. In the afternoon, I could return home. As the kidney was in good shape, we concentrated on the tumor in the prostate. For this purpose, I got hormone preparation to kill the testosterone. I was told to take these hormone pills for nine months. I also got hormone injections three times in the stomach with an interval of three months. After about two months of injections, it was time for the radiation treatment, wich would last for nearly three months. Every morning, except Saturdays and Sundays, I had to get up at 05:30 to drive to the radiation clinic to get a good spot in the queue for radiation. I took it as a job assignment, and it went well. The radiation sessions were short and painless. It was however, discovered in colonoscopy (looking inside the intestine with an instrument) that the inner side of the intestine had a burn mark at a spot. The investigative doctor decided to take a sample from this area. As he did, he accidentally cut a small artery. It took me an hour until I could get the blood to stop bleeding. Until then I almost fainted from fatigue. The burn mark was from one of the radiation sessions and quite harmless. As a result, of the radiation, my breasts began to grow. My doctor said that I was quite normal, they would, however, stay like that and never get small again. At first I had a checkup every three months, then once every half a year. Now I return to the clinic for a checkup once a year. As I visited my doctor the following autumn she said that my cancer had disappeared. She was happy to meet a patient that was totally well.
